How to Download Aadhaar Card Online: Step-by-Step Guide

10 Jan 2026 Uneek PDF Team

Why You Need the Original Aadhaar PDF

Your Aadhaar card is the most critical identity document in India. While a photocopy works for general verification, many official processes—such as opening a bank account, applying for a passport, or completing KYC—require the original high-quality e-Aadhaar PDF or a secure QR code scan. Downloading the latest version ensures your address and photo are up to date.

Step-by-Step Download Guide

  1. Visit the UIDAI Portal: Go to the official website myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. Avoid third-party sites for security reasons.
  2. Login with OTP: Click on "Login". Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code. Click "Send OTP". A one-time password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  3. Download Aadhaar: Once logged in, you will see a dashboard. Click on the "Download Aadhaar" options.
    • Masked Aadhaar: Select this if you want to hide the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar number for privacy.
    • Regular Aadhaar: Downloads the full version.
  4. Verify Details: Review the preview data (Name, DOB, Address). If everything is correct, click verify and download.

How to Open the Password-Protected PDF

The PDF file you download is encrypted for your security. To open it, you need a password. The password logic is standard for all users:

Password Format: First 4 letters of your First Name (in ALL CAPS) + Your Birth Year (YYYY).

Examples:

  • Name: Ramesh Kumar, Birth Year: 1990 -> Password: RAME1990
  • Name: Sai Iyer, Birth Year: 1985 -> Password: SAI1985 (Only 3 letters in name? Use them all + Year, e.g., SAI1985)

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

"Mobile Number Not Linked": If your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, you cannot download the PDF online. You must visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra for biometric verification.

"Signature Not Verified": Sometimes the PDF shows a yellow question mark on the signature. This is valid, but to fix it, open the PDF in Adobe Reader on a PC, right-click the signature, and select "Validate Signature".
