Splitting a PDF into Separate Pages
Sometimes you need only specific pages from a large PDF. This guide explains how to split PDFs into individual files or smaller documents.
Use our Split PDF tool to upload a file and choose whether to split every page or extract specific page ranges. The tool will generate a ZIP file with all split pages. For manual splitting, Adobe Acrobat Pro allows you to extract pages via the “Organize Pages” tool. Free software like PDFsam offers similar functionality. On macOS, Preview can save selected pages as a new PDF: open the sidebar, select pages, and drag to a new window. For command-line users, pdftk can split PDFs using commands like “pdftk input.pdf cat 1-5 output output.pdf.” Always verify the split files for completeness and formatting. If you need to split by bookmarks or chapters, look for advanced tools with that feature. Splitting is useful for extracting invoices, certificates, or specific chapters from a large document. Keep the original PDF intact until you confirm the split files are correct.
